| Princess, really Princess Leia although we never called her that after her first few weeks with us, was our first family dog. Her mother was a cocker named Tansy, who belonged to a friend; her father was unknown. We made some beginner's mistakes in training Princess, but we loved her and she loved her "people-puppies". Our worst mistake was in failing to have her spayed when she was young, with the result that eventually she developed mammary cancer. If we had known this could have been prevented by early spaying, she could have had several more years with us.
